Señorio de Montanera produces top-quality Iberian ham and cured sausages, from pure Iberian pigs reared on acorns. The company was founded in 1995 by a group of traditional Iberian livestock farmers in Extremadura. All of them interested in preserving the purity of the Iberian breed. At present, the company comprises 75 members with more than 60,000 hectares of pastures in Extremadura and Andalusia, and 16 partners with pastures in the Alentejo region of Portugal.
The main distinguishing feature of Señorío de Montanera is that they control the entire production chain, from the raw material - the rearing of pure Iberian acorn-fed pigs - to the production of the final product - ham, shoulder ham, cured sausages and meats. The partners are livestock farmers dedicated to the traditional rearing of this breed, fattening the pigs for exclusive supply to us in the dehesa pastures, with acorns and natural grasses following the montanera rearing tradition. In addition, they are members of AECERIBER, the Spanish Iberian Pig Breeder’s Association, and of ANCPA, the Alentejano Pig Breeder’s Association in Portugal.
Señorío de Montanera is currently the leader in the production of pure Iberian acorn-fed pork products under the Dehesa de Extremadura Designation of Origin and is available in more than 25 countries around the world, with a significant presence in Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, France and Canada.
